Amy Carmichael

1867 - 1951
Amy Carmichael was born on December 16, 1867 in Millisle, Northern Ireland. She travelled to India in 1895 where she first started an orphanage. In 1901 she rescued a "temple child", a girl being trained for a life as a temple prostitute. This work grew into the Dohnavur Fellowship, which is still active saving babies and little children from moral and physical danger. Amy Carmichael wrote 37 books.

Let us not be surprised when we have to face difficulties. When the wind blows hard on a tree, the roots stretch and grow the stronger, Let it be so with us. Let us not be weaklings, yielding to every wind that blows, but strong in spirit to resist."
